Church School Volunteers
We encourage all generations of our congregation to be actively involved in the Christian Education of our children, and we suggest that parents teach for two years for each child they have in Church School. Our high school students are also asked to help teach and assist as needed.
Our Church School Task Force develops curriculum and coordinates special events in our children’s church life beyond the classroom. Call Khaleigh Laicher through the church office at 203-637-1791 for details.

The Rummage Room
Volunteers are the lifeline of The Rummage Room, at 191 Sound Beach Ave, Old Greenwich, CT 06870. They help receive donated household goods and clothing, or assist customers to shop for treasure.
Offer us four hours of your time weekly (flexible schedules available) and we’ll give you fellowship and the rewarding feeling that you are helping to make a difference. Click HERE for more details.

- Serve on a Committee
One of the most rewarding ways to service the church is to join one of its many committees (click HERE to see a description of each and the time commitment involved). Each committee guides an important aspect of the church’s activities, like attracting and welcoming new members, directing Outreach programs to support communities in need, or finding new ways to balance the annual budget. This is a great way to meet new people and discover what makes this church so special.

Caring Ministries
The Caring Ministries and additional FCCOG volunteers deliver Christmas poinsettias and Easter lilies to approximately two dozen church members who are home bound or experienced a loss or serious illness within the past year. Some Caring Ministries members continue with weekly or “as needed” visits. This group also hosts an annual Valentine’s Tea for FCCOG members living at Edgehill. For additional information about Caring Ministries, contact Sue Asselin (Parish Nurse Staff Liaison) @ (203) 637-1791 ext. 821.

- Women’s Fellowship
Volunteer opportunities that support the outreach work of the Women’s Fellowship include:
- volunteering at The Rummage Room
- quilting and selling tickets for the annual quilt raffle
- annual Soup Sale on Superbowl Sunday

- New Covenant Center Café
The New Covenant House Cafe is located at 174 Richmond Hill Avenue in Stamford. Volunteers serve a hot meal on the second Thursday of the month. Approximately 100 clients enjoy the nutritious dinner and a friendly smile at the end of the day. First Church has been providing a monthly meal to NCC for 39 years. Volunteers are needed for light set up and serving. Teens may volunteer with a parent.

- Christmas Tree Sale
For two weekends after Thanksgiving, the Outreach Committee hosts the annual Christmas Tree and Wreath Sale. Over 500 trees and 300 wreaths are sold to benefit our community partners. Over 100 volunteers provide support for the sale. The 2024 community partners were: Greenwich Alliance for Education, Kids in Crisis, Mothers for Other, New Covenant Center, Pacific House, The Undies Project, The United Way and the YWCA. 2025 will be the 59th year of the sale.

- H.O.M.E. Coop
This community has been our church’s major national hands-on mission project for more than 20 years. H.O.M.E. seeks to help approximately 5,000 of the rural poor of Hancock County, Maine. H.O.M.E. visits us each November bringing handmade crafts for sale and then returning to Maine with food donations from our Harvest Sunday service.

- Kettle Quilters
This group meets each Tuesday morning to enjoy fellowship and create quilts which are raffled to support benevolences of the Women’s Fellowship. All are welcome to join and no prior experience is necessary. The group of “veteran” quilters will train and support the next generation of quilters.

First Church supports Neighbor to Neighbor with a weekly food drive to collect pantry basics. N2N is also a recipient of food from the annual Harvest Sunday food drive and Women’s Fellowship grants.

- Pilgrim Towers Volunteers
First Congregational Church has had a long association with Pilgrim Towers, a HUD subsidized residence for adults over the age of 62, located in Stamford, CT. We provide support, visitation, food and at Christmas time, gifts for the residents regardless of their church association.
First Church hosts an annual meal packing event for Rise Against Hunger. Rise Against Hunger works in countries worldwide to fight hunger, targeting communities facing high rates of food insecurity. There are packing jobs for all ages. This is a family friendly event and members are encouraged to bring friends. The next packing event will be held May 4, 2025 at 10am in the Meetinghouse instead of the weekly church service.
