Womens Fellowship By-Laws

You might not know it, but if you are a woman and a member of our church then you are a part of Women’s Fellowship. Our mission is to bring together the women of the church through social events, service projects, and educational opportunities.

We are an intergenerational group with a big history. Women have always made up a very important part of the Christian church and it is no different here at First Congregational. Since its founding, the women of the congregation have been a strong asset, a big part of the leadership, and brought a vibrant spirit to our common life.

Today, through our activities and meetings, we offer opportunities for worship, study, service and friendship. We hold annual events and ongoing groups (see below) and we run The Rummage Room, a very successful thrift store in Old Greenwich. Proceeds from The Rummage Room go to support organizations that aid women and children. Through The Rummage Room, we help fund many worthwhile local national and international charities.

And…we are growing all the time!

Watch for our announcements during the year and please consider being an active part of this vibrant and vital ministry in our church!

As women of First Congregational Church, our mission is to deepen and share our faith through:

    • Outreach opportunities that contribute time, talent and treasure to our local and global communities.
    • Programs that enrich the mind, body and spirit.
    • Fellowship activities that foster community and support.

Quilt Raffle Tickets:  Tickets for the 49th Annual Quilt Raffle are now available for purchase. The quilt is featured in the Rummage Room window during April. Raffle tickets are $5 and are available at the Rummage Room and the church office. You need not be present to win. All proceeds are donated to support charitable organizations that benefit women, children and families.

This quilt is a queen-sized contemporary pattern called “Around the Twist” with batik-type fabrics in muted blue-grays and greens. There are basically two blocks that make up this pattern. One is called a nine-patch square and the other is a fabric square called a snowball. The historical name of the quilt is “Round the Twist”, similar to Celtic Twist designs from Ireland. The blocks are sewn together in a way that makes the fabrics appear to intertwine. Celtic knots were used primarily in decorating church monuments and manuscripts, and originate in the early Roman and Byzantine empires. The basic interpretation of a Celtic knot is the cross.

Ongoing Groups

Nights Off

Nights Off generally meets on the third Monday night of each month and includes activities such as cooking for shut-ins, movie nights, book discussions, service projects or just unwinding in good company.  In the summer we meet at the beach with our own food and drinks. Be sure and check the Meetinghouse Monthly and the weekly church bulletin for information on our programs.

Kettle Quilters

Quilters of all experience levels meet Mondays from 9 am – noon in the Binney Conference Room to stitch a one of a kind queen-sized heirloom quilt that is raffled off at our Annual Meeting in May.   With warm thoughts and prayers, our quilters gather together to complete our annual quilt and socialize.

 Hats Off

Do you like to read? Then try Hats Off!

Interested in being a part of a social group and getting to know members of the church? Do you like to read and discuss what you are reading? Then please join us on most Thursday mornings in the auditorium, 10am to 11:30 for socializing, getting to know one another and exploring this month’s book, announced in the Sunday church bulletin.

We as women wear many hats (mother, spouse, sister, daughter, grandmother, career woman, volunteer, employer and employee…) and on Thursday mornings (fall, winter and spring) we come together as ourselves, take off our many hats and simply enjoy ourselves!

Come join Us!
