Hunger Mission Team

I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. Matthew 25:35

The Mission Team met on Sunday, January 31, 2010, and began to sort through the focus areas for prioritization. We all agreed that while each focus area was important, it would be important for us to prioritize and focus our energy on a few areas at a time. We selected Food Distribution/Restaurant Contributions and Neighbor to Neighbor as our two main topics to pursue. We also looked at many areas of focus where we could have some immediate impact with either minimal effort, or expanding on current efforts underway at our church. We called those ‘quick wins’. Among quick wins are cooking for the New Covenant House of Hospitality Soup Kitchen, helping with the New Covenant House of Hospitality Food Bank and Meals on Wheels. We agreed that some of these opportunities could enjoy immediate impact by merely raising awareness of the needs for extra hands among the Congregation.

On Sunday, January 31, a few Mission Team members prepared chili that was served at the New Covenant House of Hospitality Soup Kitchen on the following Monday. The experience was very enjoyable. The shopping was a breeze, the cooking was fun and we prepared enough to feed 150 hungry people in less than two hours.

It is our hope that through our work together we will not only grow in our faith as individuals, but grow in faith as a team. We are blessed with many different gifts and it will be the collection of those gifts that will guide us on this faith journey.
