Spring Festival of the Arts

May 19, 2017 - May 21, 2017

First Church hosts our annual Spring Festival of the Arts beginning Friday, May 19. The Art Society of Old Greenwich will have artwork from its members on display throughout the weekend from Friday evening through Sunday early afternoon in the Auditorium, beginning Friday with a Gala Wine and Cheese reception from 6 -7:30 pm. Each year, the number of art on display has grown, and we anticipate this year is the biggest yet.
At 7:30 on Saturday evening, May 20, Dr. Craig Scott Symons will conduct The First Church Festival Chorus and Orchestra concludes its celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Messiah concerts, first performed in December of 1966. Parts 2 and 3 of Messiah will be presented in its entirety to commemorate this momentous occasion.

The soloists for the performance will be our Chancel Choir section leaders, pictured above (L to R), Hanna Golodinskii, soprano; Linnea Conley, mezzo soprano; Drew Seigla, tenor; and Thomas Woodman, bass. Admission for the concert is $25, youth 18 and under are free, and will be available at the door on the night of the performance.

On Sunday, May 21, at 4 pm, the sanctuary will be filled with sounds of piano and organ music presented by the Birk and Hoke Duo. Husband and wife, Eric Birk and Bernadette Hoke will perform organ and piano duets by Widor, Dupré, Ernst, Hesse, and Yon. Admission is $25, youth 18 and under are free.

As many of you have stated, music is one of the reasons First Church drew you in, and it continues to be so important to you. Our community needs to be reminded of the depth of our music and arts presentations here. Encourage your friends and neighbors to join you in these wonderful events. Word of mouth is the best form of publicity and you can do your part, even if you aren’t able to attend. Share the joy with everyone!
