The Confirmation year
is a special one for young people in the ninth grade. It is a year of
growth in faith, often a time of searching and a chance to make an adult
commitment to First Church.
Confirmation Class
meets on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Youth Room.
The classes involve study, fellowship, fun and worship on a weekly basis.
The class has a traditional mission project around Christmas involving
visits to senior members of the congregation. Each year the
class goes on two retreats: one in November, "Jesus of Nazareth," where each
young person is accompanied by a parent for a weekend of New Testament
activities, and a second weekend in March, "What do I Believe?" which is
attended by just the young people and the advisors. This weekend
culminates with each young person writing a personal statement of faith.
